Short biography
Dr Panagiotis Basinas is Senior Researcher and Head of the Biochemical Process Laboratory at VŠB–Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic). He holds a diploma and PhD in Chemical Engineering from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece. His work spans renewable energy systems, sustainable fuels and waste-to-resource technologies. He began his career at the Chemical Process Engineering Laboratory (AUTH) and later joined the Centre for Research and Technology Hellas (CERTH), where he contributed to European and national projects on biomass and alternative fuel valorisation. He undertook research stays at the University of British Columbia (Vancouver) and Natural Resources Canada (Ottawa) focusing on gas-pollutant retention and clean combustion. Since 2019, he has led interdisciplinary research into the circular bioeconomy and climate-neutral energy systems. He has participated in over 24 research and demonstration projects, including coordinating roles, and has received competitive awards and high-impact evaluations for his work.
