Short biography
Norbert Fraeyman (*1948) got his PhD in biochemistry in 1983 for a study on the adrenergic properties of adrenergic tissue when transformed into cancerous neuroblastoma tissue. He became a professor in biochemical pharmacology/toxicology at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Ghent, Medical School, in 1993. He lectured on the basic molecular biology of pharmacology and on the relationship between alternative medical treatments and mainstream medical practice. Fraeyman joined the board of the University Hospital Ghent in 1996 as an expert in environmental issues and lectured on “Health and environment” in the Medical School. Fraeyman retired from the Faculty in 2013 but is still active as an expert linked to the board of the University Hospital. NF is active in the Superior Health Council related to matters of environment and health in the section “Chemical Agents” and contributes to several current advisories.

Publications
In the first part of his career, NF published approximately 50 scientific papers that contributed to a better understanding of the adrenergic signal transduction system in health and disease, particularly in cancer. In the second part of his career, he made substantial contributions to the formulation of academic advice on environmental pollution and human health for the government and published several papers on the subject. He is the author/co-author of several books on specialized topics in pharmacology and on the effect of pesticides on human health, in particular glyphosate.
