Short biography
Giovanni Gigliotti, graduated with honours in Agricultural Science in 1979 at the University of Perugia. From 1979 to 1981 he had a research grant at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Perugia. After having worked for a short period in the private industry, he carried out his scientific and academic activity as Graduate Technician at the Faculty of Agriculture University of Perugia, as Assistent Professor in Agricultural Chemistry (from 1990 to 2001) at the Faculty of Agriculture; Associate Professor in Agricultural Chemistry (from 2001 to 2013), at the Faculty of Agriculture, and as Full Professor in Agricultural Chemistry (from 2013 to October to date) at the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering University of Perugia. Since November 1st 2019 to October 31th 2025, he was Head of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department. And also member of the University of Perugia’s Academic Senate. In the 2017/19 three-year period, he was Vice Rector for Cultural Activities.

Anaerobic digestion of livestock wastes, plants, organic byproducts and organic fraction of urban wastes for biogas and hydrogen production
Co-composting of byproducts, sewage sludge, solid waste and digestate

Fate of microplastic and bioplastic during composting and anaerobic digestion and their impact in treated soils.
Third-generation biorefinery for the production of bioactive molecules, bioplastics, biofuels and biofertilizers.
Publications
He is author of more than 300 publications in International Journals, Proceeding of National and International Congress, 110 of which are indexed in Scopus and Web of Science.
