Short biography
Professor Francesco Fatone is Full Professor of Chemical-Environmental Engineering at the Polytechnic University of Marche (UNIVPM) in Italy. He holds a Master’s degree (M.Sc.) and a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering, and he has developed an extensive academic and research career focused on innovative water and wastewater treatment, resource recovery, circular economy and industrial symbiosis.
Prof. Fatone is internationally recognized for coordinating large-scale European research and innovation projects, funded under FP7, Horizon 2020, and Horizon Europe, working with multidisciplinary consortia composed of universities, industries, utilities, regional authorities, and innovation clusters. He has led or contributed to more than 30 EU-funded projects, including flagship initiatives on water-smart solutions, circular bioeconomy and integrated waste–water–energy nexus approaches.
His scientific and project leadership activities encompass collaborations with the European Commission, the European Water Platform, technology platforms, and regulatory stakeholders.
