Short biography
Dr. Valentina Grossule obtained her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the University of Padova, Italy, in 2019. She is currently working as a research fellow at the same university, where she teaches the course Water and Wastewater Treatment within the Master’s Degree Program in Environmental Engineering. She is also serving as Principal Investigator of the STARS@Unipd project entitled “LarWaR – Use of Black Soldier Fly Larvae for Innovative Wastewater Treatment and Resource Recovery.”
Her research focuses on developing cost-effective and sustainable solutions in the fields of Environmental Engineering, Waste, and Wastewater Treatment and Management. She is currently involved in the development of an innovative biological treatment for high-organic-content wastewater (such as food processing effluents) based on the use of Black Soldier Fly larvae, aimed at resource recovery (e.g., animal feed, lipid and protein extraction).
Research areas
Waste and Wastewater Treatment and Management
Biological Treatment Technologies
Resource Recovery from Waste Streams
Plasma and Hydrocavitation Processes
Sustainable Landfilling and Circular Economy
Publications
She has authored 26 papers in international peer-reviewed journals and has presented her work in over 30 manuscripts at international conferences. She is the author of the book “The Sustainable Landfilling: Role in Circular Economy and Legislative Proposals” (in Italian) and the inventor of the Italian and European patents “Method for treating wastewater containing biodegradable organic substances by using Black Soldier Fly larvae”
